Balls on a String

Topics: Mechanics - Centripetal/Centrifugal Forces, Torque, Period/Frequency

Equipment: Green tennis ball attached to a string with a clear plastic pipe, blue tennis ball attached to rubber tubing.

Setup: For the green tennis ball, put the string through and hold the plastic pipe in one hand and the end of the string in the other. Using the hand holding the pipe, spin the ball around in a circle. Slowly increase and decrease the radius of the circle by passing the string through the pipe.

For the blue tennis ball, simply spin it around in a circle, so that the tubing stretches as it spins faster.

Location: Shelf B-e3
