  Absorption of Radiation

In this experiment the absorption of beta and gamma radiation by various materials is studied. Measurements are done with a Geiger-Muller tube and scaler.

  Electron Spin Resonance

In this experiment students measure g, a dimensionless quantity that relates the difference in energy between two levels and the magnetic field present. Line width for one of the resonances is also obtained.

  Optical Spectroscopy

Various atomic spectra are observed with a diffraction grating. Techniques of making sprectral measurements are explored and analysis of the data is performed.

  Nuclear Spectroscopy

In this experiment students measure and interpret energy distributions of a variety of particles emitted by radioactive nuclei. How these particles interact with matter is also investigated.

  Half-Life of Ba-137m

In this experiment students measure the half life of BA-137m where the "m" means that the Ba is in metastable state and decays to the ground state with the emission of a higher energy photon.

  Two Slit Interference

In this experiment students explore the concept of wave-particle duality by limiting the output of a source to only one photon at a time, then observing an interference pattern through a double slit.
