D.L. Stein: Research on Disordered and Random Materials (In and Out of Equilibrium)
for Non-Physicists
(Continued)

Progress in understanding these systems is therefore greatly desirable. Spin glasses may be more amenable to mathematical analysis than other materials in this class. Nevertheless, little fundamental progress has been made even here. My research (with Charles Newman) is aimed at resolving basic mathematical and physical issues concerning these materials and at providing a general theoretical foundation for approaching wide variety of disordered systems.

For more information on these systems at a nontechnical level, see Refs. 4 - 9 in Nontechnical Publications. My research on these topics is partially supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. DMS-06-04869.
