B.Sc 1972, PhD 1976, Advisor: Bernard Lippman, Thesis: Moment Theory of Self-Trapping of Light
I joined USC in 1977 as a post-doc working under John H. Marburger III on nonlinear optics and W.H. Louisell on free electron lasers. In 1978 I joined Hughes Research Laboratories as a member of the technical staff, and became senior scientist at Hughes Electronics. Hughes sent me back to school to obtain my MBA at the Anderson School at UCLA.
After graduating with the MBA degree, I joined Hewlett Packard as a product marketing manager. There I launched and managed a new business in optical telecom. I left HP to become Director of Commercial Ventures at the Raytheon Company, launching new high tehcnology start ups and working with major Venture Capital Funds.
I remembered fondly my school years at NYU. it taught me the basis for what has been a tremendously exciting career. I published a lot and pioneered a new field in optics, becoming a Fellow of the Optical Society of America. Along the way, I was also a visiting faculty at the University of Paris.
