BS 1992, Informal Advisor: Martin Hoffert
After NYU I moved to Arizona to go to grad school in atmospheric
sciences. After a year I moved to the hydrology department on the same
campus. I am interested in how decision-makers can use seasonal climate
forecasts to improve resource (water, wildfire, grassland...) management.
For my dissertation I'm developing a way to blend seasonal climate
forecasts of precipitation and temperature into seasonal forecasts of
river flow in the Western US. This year I won the American Geophysical
Union (AGU) Horton Research Award, the highest award that the AGU
Hydrology section confers upon a student. I anticipate finishing my degree
in late 2002 early 2003. After graduation I aspire to become a seasonal
forecaster in either the USDA or the National Weather Service.
